A Vintage Summer at Goodwood

Vintage at Goodwood celebrates 5 decades of British Cool on the 13th-15th August. This new summer festival is the brainchild of designers Gerardine Hemingway MBE, Wayne Hemingway MBE – who started their business selling and customising second hand clothes and are now co-owners of Britain’s premier collection of cultural artefacts.

Think of Vintage at Goodwood as the new annual Festival of Britain. Whether it’s Swing, Rockabilly, Mod, Soul, Funk, Disco, Ska, Electro, Burlesque, Film or Art & Design that’s your thing, whether you just want to dress up and get an authentic ‘flat top’ and make-over for a day, Vintage at Goodwood will be visual, responsible, aural and sensual, a big family dressing up box, a collectors dream and a joyous creative feast for all ages.

So time to dust down your tent or book one of their very stylish yurts and head to the South Downs. Amidst all this fun and frivolity will be some serious WI cake, cream teas and china...I'm still working out wether Let them eat Cake should tootle down there too...

Mad Hatters Tea Party

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland pulls viewers down a whimsical, yet all-too familiar, rabbit-hole. In this newly adapted sequel to Lewis Carrol’s novel, Alice is a pale nineteen year old who despises corsets, stockings, and more generally, the altogether restrictive nature of life in Victorian England. Eager to escape from a rather intimidating marriage proposal, Alice chases after the scurrying White Rabbit and tumbles into Wonderland (or Underland, as it is referred to in the film), where the hot tempered, big-headed Red Queen reigns supreme.

Some of our cake stands would happily sit at the Mad Hatters tea party, so we've named two (Alice in Wonderland & The Rabbitt) in honour of this visually exciting and maverick film, which bottled up would say 'Watch me and eat Cake'!

New Year Greetings and fruitiness..

Belated and very happy 2010 Greetings to all our fellow cake stand lovers. Thanks for supporting Clare and I in our new business venture in 2009, long may all things vintage be celebrated and enjoyed.
We had a very busy time at the East London Design Show, which continued throughout the Christmas period; which made all the hard work, new wrinkles, neglected kids and hubbies worthwhile (I think). Hiromi Stone bought one of our rarer platters at the show and as you can see has piled it high with gorgeous fruit. Maybe like many of us she's ditched the cake for a while to shed those Christmas pounds - or is that just me? We're really keen to see more pictures of your cake stands in action,do send them in.
For the next few months we're going to be hunting and gathering rare and special china, so our next collection won't be available until Spring. Do drop us a line if you'd like to be one of the first to know when they've been released. Meanwhile enjoy not being able to get to work, hot chocolate warmers and the quietness that the snow brings..

Cake Stand News Flash!

This little beauty will be taking a starring role on 'Market Kitchen' a television programme on the Good Food Channel, tonight between 7 and 8pm. Our cake stands have been selected by none other than Jo wood, from Strictly Come Dancing and ex-wife of Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood. She's giving her guide on what you need for Christmas entertaining and considers our stands a must-have item.

Slight problem in that I don't have Sky, in fact even Channel 5 is viewed through a crackly haze..so if you do get this channel, let us know how they looked please.

Christmas Sparkle

Clare and Danny have been very busy in Mile End and are still shaking the residual glitter from two unhappy cats and very sparkly children. These beautiful glitter cups will be on sale at the East London Design Show in Shoreditch this December and we hope that for £9.50 will bring a friend or much loved relly a warm vintage glow.
